Fifteenth Birthday (2011)

Jamie’s 15th birthday Celebration & Jamie’s Joy Events
Everything from the service projects to the butterfly release were all a great success. Every act was a very meaningful display of how Jamie and his legacy continue to be a part of all our lives. This year’s theme was on Jamie’s quality of CONNECTION and how across even country lines we all want the same things for our youth!

Of course love, peace and Joy were present as we continue to transform tragedy, through giving and service, into a legacy that celebrates life.

Service Project: March , 2011
Jamie’s Joy again participated in the Interfaith Shelter Network Project by serving food and entertainment, to a group that this year was hosted at Jamie’s own church, Christ Church Unity.

We had 2 nights of service this year serving pizza one night and Jamie’s favorite the second night Bean, Rice, Cheese (BRC) burritos with all the fixings, We sang Karaoke and had acoustic guitar playing in that order. A lot of fi rst time volunteers, that have never been a part of Jamie’s Joy were there and all of us had a great time with our guests. We talked with the shelter guests, prayed, ate dinner and then enjoyed entertainment.

“Make a Joyful Noise” Fiesta Style Benefit Concert: May 29, 2011
The third annual public fund raiser was held at our new venue the Centro Cultural de la Raza in Balboa Park. It was an afternoon of Latin pop music by the Word Renowned Latin Pop group Relax, fabulous food by Rancho’s Cocina, face painting by Daniela that event the grown-ups enjoyed, along with Photo booth fun from Priceless Moments, chair message by Rebecca and of course the great deals and offerings of the silent auction. Jamie’s slide show set to Karl’s tribute songs helped everyone to connect to the Spirit of Jamie through images and words that touch the heart. It was moving, inspiring and a great tribute to how Jamie connects with people he’s never even met (in the physical form). We also raised over $5000.00 and had over 150 persons in attendance at the event. A PSA was aired on 91x prior to the feastivities.

Here is one attendee’s post-event email:

It was very nice to have met you! You put on a VERY nice event, and I was touched!! My Daughter & her friend had a great time with your activities. I won several raffles, and won a few auction items, too. The food was delicious, and we had a wonderful afternoon. Thanks for inviting us. I hope your event was successful for you. I look forward to attending again next year. Take care

Jamie’s Way Clean Up & Butterfly Release: May 30, 2010
The clean up & planting of Jamie’s Way Canyon Park in Azalea Park was another act of service by Jamie’s Joy for 2011. We got the park looking fantastic and then held a ceremony releasing 15 butterflies. At the end of our time together we shared how Jamie is still touching each of our lives and sang him Happy Birthday.

So much more than events:
Jamie’s Joy is not a series of events, it is the story of a how a little boy’s contagious spirit lives on past his short life into a legacy of Love, Joy, Peace and Connection. It is a story of the family’s (including all of Jamie’s many friends) journey from tragedy to healing through service & giving to the community.
