Candle Lighting Ceremony and Holiday Program

"....... that their light may always shine"                              

Held the second Sunday of each December... check with your local chapter for exact time and location  in your area.  This night is dedicated to all children who have gone too soon.  The night is dedicated to our children with poems, stories, readings and the candle lighting. The candles light will pass from Mountain to Pacific time and then in 24 hours the light will travel around the world in our children's honor. We invite all those who have been touched by the loss of a child to join us for this very touching event.  You are invited to bring a short story, poem or other reading of two minutes or shorter for a public reading.  Commonly people bring a dessert to share afterwards. Even if you can't be at the ceremony we urge you to light a candle in a child's memory or for the children who pass from this world everyday. 

In San Diego the event is held from7 p.m.-9 p.m. at  Grace Community Church.  Even though it is held at a church it is not a religious event although most would call it spiritual.

Directions to the church:  5 to 52. exit Genesee South. Continue past Clairemont Mesa Blvd to Mt. Etna Dr. Proceed right to 4811 (on the left). Or from the  805 take 52 west and proceed as above.  Or take 805 to Clairemont Mesa Blvd West. Turn left on Genesee and proceed as above.

Regular meetings of The Compassionate Friends in San Diego County are held the first Wednesday of each month at Scripps Health Center in UTC at 7-9 pm. Each month we honor all the children who had birthdays in that month. The family can bring their favorite snack, photos and other mementos to share with the group.
