Our Special Day
Moms who have lost children
May or may not have another child
To acknowledge them
On their special day
On this special day
Celebrated all around the world
A day belonging to those who give so much
To those mothers, myself included
The day once celebrated, is now pained
Always in our hearts
Mother to the one who is lost
There is no time for a grieving mom
Decades do no erase the void left by one so precious
The other children will say it “Happy Mother’s Day”
They will plead in their greeting “We are still here”
All the while knowing you too are lost
Lost in a time when all the children were present
The only and greatest gift a mother wants
So we greet the world with a thank you on this our special day
And whether there are others to ease the pain
Or whether our only connection to motherhood, our only child has been taken
We will feel it most acutely today
On this special day
Celebrated all around the world
A day belonging to those who give so much
